My name is Yvonne and I am a 2nd year graduate student. I obtained a BA in Political Science from the University of Arkansas-Monticello (Home of the fighting Weevils). I am working on a Master’s degree in Higher Education. My passion for politics comes from an unknown source. I choose to think it came from my Grandmother. She and I had completely different points of view regarding politics and I’m sure she would turn in her grave if she knew just how much of a republican I actually became but I have some fond memories of arguing with her.
I enjoy all things academic and all things political. My favorite topics of discussion are the ones that tend to cause people to fight. Yes that would be religion, politics, sex and money (I tend not to talk about the third one).
I am proud to say I am a Christian but yes I do hate the religious right. I firmly believe that the only way for me to enjoy religious freedom is to keep religion out of politics. There are just some things the government shouldn’t concern themselves with. I try not to let my personal faith cloud my politics. Some would say I’m not really a Christian if I don’t support a Constitutional amendment defining marriage as one man and one woman or if I choose not to support some other evangelical movement. However, I am still a believer in the fact that my rights end where your rights begin and while yes the Bible does talk about homosexuality being immoral it absolutely does not infringe on your rights in any way shape or form if two men want to marry. Therefore the government needs to stay out of it and focus on things that affect the livelihood of this nation.
Most will look at the title of this blog and assume I’m on the web claiming to be a moderate who wants to know why we can’t all just get along. That is not the case. Let me start out by saying I am a Republican and I’m proud of it. However, I do enjoy looking at all sides of a platform, argument, agenda, etc. and yes, there have been times when I have agreed with “the other side”. I will rant and I will share my opinion but you can believe I have researched before I develop that opinion.
Ok I’ll stop ranting for now. It is my hope that everyone will feel the freedom to discuss what they want here. I only ask that you refrain from ad hominem attacks (debate speak for personal attack). I’m open to all comments and suggestions!
